Guest Lecture: Roopa Vasudevan

The presentation was really interesting because I never thought about how some of our work is out of our control when it involves the use of APIs and other services from other companies. She talked a lot about how when a company updated their terms of service and APIs, we have to either conform and agree to it, and update our work, or we let our work die. Its something that I never thought about because I would typically just agree to their terms and update my work to continue to work.

I had a little bit of experience with creating a twitter bot and so I understand how this can be hard on someone. My bot was never fully active but for an artist who has spent countless hours working on a project, especially those in a group. It tough when you all of a sudden have to decide whether or not you keep your project live and update everything or move on and let it die. And with a group, who gets to decide whether or not it dies?
